Podcast - The TED Interview with Sir Ken Robinson

Daily Resource / April 3rd, 2023

When I was in school I know I had some pivotal conversations about learning without knowing they were about learning. I knew that I was unhappy at a few key points in my education and I know that I spoke about those issues with those around me, teachers, other students, and counselors. However, I don’t remember the individual conversations or words exchanged, but I do know the effect it had on me. It is often the conversations that seem small that have a lasting effect on our lives.

I hadn’t really thought about these small conversations until I heard Sir Ken Robinson speak about his experiences in his early childhood. One small conversation in his early elementary, that he cannot remember, changed the course of his education and he continued his career advocating for students and enriching their experiences in classrooms. He argues throughout the episode that education is the key issue of the 21st Century, at one point quoting H.G. Wells “Human history is more and more the race between education and catastrophe.” He is a voice that I return to again and again to reaffirm my love for education and building better learning environments for students.
